Oh boy, do I hope that the rain is getting out of it's system before June! As you know, we are out of the building at the end of May, so I'm hoping that in June we will be able to do our outdoor activities. Don't worry, we are working on Plan B in case of rain.
The question of the week is what about transportation the last three days of school. If you can bring and pick up your child to FCC Church, that would be great. If you live in Lakewood and you need help with transportation to FCC, give Janet a call in the office and we will put you on the list for the bus. The deadline for Mr. Stoner will be next Friday.
The teachers need your help in making sure your child knows that there is still alot of instruction to be done by the end of the year. I'm noticing that the students are getting anxious for summer and not as willing to learn as they were a month ago. If you, as a parent, could give them a "gentle nudge" that would be great!
As I peeked into the construction zone, the beams for the walls are becoming a reality. Tomorrow, I will share the color scheme with Oviatt and I'm hoping that they are as happy as the Lakewood staff. Each wing will have a color designation and the tiling will be designed in order to help with the positive behavior support hallway expectations. Both staffs voted to have the 3rd grade sections in the south wing and the 5th graders in the new wing. The staff felt as if the 5th graders needed to be in a separate wing as a logical transition to Middle School. Another thing you will see is the sod that will be laid on the playing fields. We plan to keep the fence up in order to keep people off that area.
Today, some of the 6th graders came to visit the 5th graders. The students now know how to open their lockers and can make it to classes in three minutes. It amazes me how fast they move when they have that time limit! The students who had problems with demerits are meeting with Mr. Oleson and Mr. Collins to troubleshoot solutions before Middle School. The purpose of demerits is not to be punitive, but to see what kids needs some extra help before the end of the year.
The Jazz Band came today to perform for our kids. It is so rewarding to see how kids blossom in Middle School! Until Wednesday......Jill
